How to do Kickass Rebranding and Awesome Social Media Strategy

Social Media Primer

What is social media?

Social Media is defined as a conversation powered by online platforms. Conversations between all people in the internet.

There is no regulation and no formal organization so an expert consultation is needed to aid entities who wish to utilize this form of media. Content that you share has to be emergent, fun, compelling but the key thing is to listen to your target audience.

The ability of your target audience to respond in real-time makes goals quantifiable as well as measurable qualitatively. It is a brand new way of understanding markets not just another messaging channel.

What are the things you can do with social media?

  1. Post real-time updates and advisories
  2. Complement your traditional media campaigns by making the materials available online
  3. Archive and distribute important government documents meant for public distribution
  4. Promote events
  5. Raise awareness
  6. Crowd source materials, ideas, feedback, suggestion
  7. Recruit volunteers
  8. Raise funds

What are its limitations?

It is not a magic bullet, it will not help you if you don’t develop your brand, and if you don’t have a staff. As with any other medium, it takes time: to listen, to participate, to generate buzz and build a community. The biggest struggle non-profits and government have is understanding the platforms as tools to engage communities, that is what new media companies are built for.

Why is it important?

Internet usage is growing at an exponential rate. This year, Asia Pacific is expected to triple theirs with wifi-enabled mobile computing devices becoming commodities. Corporations, governments and NGOs are capitalizing on their social media profiles to engage.

Philippines has a fair chance to achieving the same brand success given the right tools, planning, and implementation. GlobalWebIndex published a study about social networking usage for 2011-212 and we, Filipinos, ranks first; all the more reasons to tap the medium. Industry insiders attribute it to our culture of kinship among family and friends. reports that it took radio and TV to reach 50 million users. Facebook added 100 million users in 6 months. Amazing isn’t it?

No wonder why department and agencies of developing countries’ governments are on Facebook: Department of Health Victoria AU and Department of Health and Health Services of the US.

Official Jaysee Social Networking Sites | Jaysee Blabs Rebranding Launched!

Jaysee Blabs Official Avatars used
I have been putting on hold this blog's branding launch for quite some time now because of a lot of engagements.

I wanted to be an identity and with so much avenues for expression, I admit I may have been quite inconsistent.

I wanted Jaysee Blabs not just as a blog title but a reputable source of quality content; a mission I have not concocted not until I reached this far.

The ironic thing is I am able to pull branding strategies and collaterals on other causes such as the Project Liwanag and iluvfarmers Campaign. and events like the Visayas Blogging Summit and 3rd CBSi Anniversary and other businesses via freelance and office clients... but certainly not on mine. Life, let's just say, has not been that kind enough to give me much time for the things I love.

You can read about the weird Jaysee Blabs story at, the mother site of the organization I am actively part of the Cebu Bloggers Society which has also garnered the respect of other institutions for its professionalism and its establishment:
Looking back on Jaysee Blabs Journey

Jaysee Blabs blog's mission is to create editorial impact, build community, effectively market solutions, products, business, and events all by delivering quality content.

Jaysee Blabs is where you get to read quality articles about anything awesome. From life in Cebu, issues and great programs in the Philippines, technology and entertainment, graphic and web design and some other awesome stuff.

My tagline: Anything Awesome!

Anyway, in just two days I was able to create a design guideline with consistent imagery amongst all the social networks where Jaysee Blabs and its network of blogs appear and I am proud to show you the output. Meticulous color scheme, design inspiration, HTML/CSS knowledge, and Photoshop layouting was put into place for all of this to be achieved. It was actually more of trial and error because of the different behaviors of the images in different browsers, different platforms and different screen resolutions. Anyways, drool on them below...

There is Love - Chasen

You're looking through the fire that burns
What's on your mind
I can tell it hurts

Tears don't fall if nothing is wrong
So come close
Tonight is still young

Ooh, there is love for you
There is love for you in my arms
Ooh, you are everything
Everything that I'm living for
And don't be afraid to tell me what's on your heart
Ooh, there is love for you here in my arms

Pictures they paint
The memories of my home
Even in a crowd without you I am alone
God I know you made an angel for me
Somewhere close that's my destiny

Come close hear my breath breathing
Whispering the words I love you
Come close see your future
And know that there is hope and there is love for you

GMA’s new Lupang Hinirang Movie: Philippines’ Cinematic Gem

The Philippines is home to the richest culture known to man with history so epic, even other nations point their magnifying glass at us to study societal psychology and political makeup. GMA, one of the biggest television networks in the country has set yet another landmark in cinematic excellence by producing what could be the best Philippine National Anthem movie of all time.

In a well-crafted filmic gem, the HD movie retells the story of the Philippines from the heroism of Lapu-lapu to the EDSA revolution.

lupang hinirang fight in mactan lupang hinirang gomburza lupang hinirang pugad lawin lupang hinirang jose rizal
I didn’t really know about this movie until I stumbled upon in Youtube. After much digging I found out that it was launched in Party Pilipinas last August 22, 2010. How on earth could I have missed it? It gave me chills second after second and I could never be more proud to be a Filipino and I have GMA to thank.

Leading the pack is Richard Gutierrez, cast in the role of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon, looking elegant and every inch a gentleman of the old school, while Dingdong Dantes plays Gen. Gregorio del Pilar, strong and mighty on horseback.

Playing other important roles are the network’s equally important actors, including: Dennis Trillo as Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Aljur Abrenica as Lapu-Lapu, Mark Anthony Fernandez as Andres Bonifacio, Marvin Agustin as Jose Rizal.

roster of Kapuso stars playing icons in Philippine history includes, in alphabetical order: Victor Aliwalas, Alvin Aragon, Bea Binene, Iza Calzado, Bodie Cruz, Gabby and Geoff Eigenmann, Carlo Gonzalez, Carl Guevarra, Dion Ignacio, Paolo Paraiso, Enzo Pineda, Rhian Ramos, Marian Rivera, Arthur Solinap, Mike Tan, JC Tiuseco, Dennis Trillo, and TJ Trinidad.

Shot wholly in high-definition (HD) digital video technology, the national anthem is scheduled to roll soon on the big screens of SM across the country. It will also be part of GMA’s sign-on and sign-off messages marking the beginning and end of each day’s broadcast.

“Lupang Hinirang,” which runs for two and a half minutes, is directed by Paul Ticzon, who says it took his team 10 months of meticulous research and preparation to shoot the vignettes. Ticzon is also the AVP for Post Production Operations Division of GMA.

Awesome Game Movies by me

Sims 2 Sims 2
Sims 2 Sims 2

I’ve always dreamt of making movies. I come up with brilliant storylines, set it up, visualize the movie’s look and feel, editing clips together, scoring it with great tracks and then showing it off.

Only Sims 2 has provided me the platform to make my visions into reality. It gave me the chance to exploring my inner director while at the same time playing the game I love. It may take days or in some occasion a week to finish but the fulfillment I get after uploading it online is worth all the trouble.

With the machine I have, I couldn’t use Sims 3 for in-game video capturing which kills me. As of now, Sims 2 is enough and optimal.

Magical Sisters - A Sims 2 Short Film

The story surrounds two sisters living in Sims 2's beautiful Belladonna Cove with basically different tastes in fashion but shares a common habit of gossiping. After receiving a mysterious gift and phoning the Witch of Darkness to come by, these sisters have lives yet to turn around.

Lipad - Sims 2 Version - Gibo Ad

He deserved to win our votes. Read more about this video here in my blog:

Live Like We're Dying - Kris Allen - Sims 2 Music Video

Don't you ever get scared you don't have that chance to say "I love you"? That is the message of Kris Allen's new single, Live Like We're Dying, a song on what could be called one of the most inspirational adult contemporary track of all time.

"If you're life flashed before you, what would you wish you would've done."

And I did all I could to give the song justice by making a music video short film machinima out of it.

I used the elements: calling the grim reaper, desert by day and night, highway, manipulating weather to cause snow on desert, and a whole lot of cinematics to push the message across that what we all have... is now.

Pyramid - Charice Pempengco - Sims 2 Music Video

"Pyramid" is the second U.S. single of Filipina pop and R&B singer Charice. I didn’t base the video on the official music vid but I just wanted shots that depicts moments frozen in time since the song spoke of deep lines of love amidst troubles.

Pleasantview- A Sims 2 Short Film

I’ve been doing movies in Sims 2 using the Pleasantview neighborhood characters for some time now. I decided to make a new one using Bon Voyage expansion game taking the families to Hawaii and China.

Reasons Why I Will Vote Gibo and the Sims 2 “Lipad” Ad I made for him

  2. speaks of RECONCILIATION and UNITY.
  3. offers realistic solutions.
  4. He is NOT tainted with corruption or any scandal.
  7. has the POLITICAL WILL
I loved him so much that I decided to create a music video/campaign for him using my favorite computer game, The Sims 2. With the inspiring song “Lipad” by Rivermaya, I decided to incorporate elements of the plane, him interacting with the commoners, and adding his strongest points as subtitles all throughout, I proudly present to you the
Lipad – Sims 2 Gibo Music Video.

Because he could really need a little more exposure.
Even my own brother has told me to stop campaigning for him because the odds are that he will lose, given the figures that the surveys show and the fact that the voting public is mostly made up of people that (let’s just say) don’t belong to the thinking class and who only depends on the mainstream media for information, which apparently is dominated by two incompetent people.

New CPDRC Dancing Inmates video to Micheal Jackson’s This Is It

Another way for Filipino pride to shine through, Philippines’ "Dancing Inmates" from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a maximum security prison, were treated to a visit by Michael Jackson’s long-time choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid to learn performances from THIS IS IT.

The internet has been paving the way to international stardom for most people including Filipino names like pop star Charice Pempengco and Arnel Pineda who eventually became the voice of Journey. This another act of CPDRC is another great way to break the power of conventional media and making entertainment the world deserves accessible. They started with “Thriller” so I guess it makes sense that they give us another world-class performance from the people the society used to look down upon, our dancing inmates. This is rehabilitation at its finest and I couldn’t be more thankful that people with great names from the industry have put their resources together to put an act which in itself is a grand example of discipline in the likes of the late star himself. Feel your spine tingle and enjoy the video that will pretty much gain yet another buzz it needs.

Be Amazed at World-Class Pageantry of Sinulog sa Kabataan 2010

Mabolo Elementary School bags home the title of Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan’s Grand Champion Elementary Division. Their dance showed dancers as Papaya farmers whose crops have been attacked and this beautiful lady carrying the image of Sto. Nino brings them back to life and man, they were great. People were screaming their name come the announcement time and we rejoiced just the same. And they won Best Costume too.

Watch the Mabolo Elementary School’s performance:
Meanwhile, the High School Division’s results were a bit disappointing to me because I was rooting for the Don Sergio Osmena Memorial High School for their theatricality. Their dance starts with a man and her old mother as a live portrait and revolves around a moving play where the man leaves home and enters the church to be ordained priest and goes back to his home and reunites with his mom.

    Image050 Image051 Image052 Image053
Abellana National High School’s almost perfect dance routines may have won the judges over that is why they took home the Grand Prize for High School Division. They should have worked with a strong charismatic storyline to incorporate with their dance.

Watch Abellana National High School’s performance:

And it has been reported that Cebu City Sports Center was packed with 30,000 people overflowing from the 13,000-capacity grandstand. But I was inside the oval and had a closer look at the show. To note, it was the biggest crowd in Sinulog sa Kabataan history and we could be more than thankful that nothing evil happened unless you are the type of person that gets bummed out with rain.

Sinulog sa Kabataan is a yearly event which gathers up all contingents from different Elementary and High Schools in Cebu to dance in honor of Sto. Nino, a miraculous image of Child Jesus. Originally only top 5 of each category can only make it through the Sinulog Grand Parade, this year was an exception: all of the 17 contingents can participate to compete for a million pesos come January 17.

    Why Vote For Gibo?

gibo teodoro galing talino Gilberto Gibo Teodoro is a great man and to judge him based on the party he represents is just unfair that is why you could really see the amount of effort he exerts to redeem himself. The man has the brain of his own and he is definitely better than anybody else. He can prove that positive politics could really reign in the country where trapo officials are given more favor by the media.

    Reasons to vote for him

Russia’s 2008 Official Entry to Eurovision Song Competition “Believe” [VIDEO]

Believe is sung by Dima Bilan for Europe’s biggest TV event dubbed “Eurovision” which has been around for quite some time and I will be forever grateful to Google for letting me stumble through their official Youtube and homepage. (To note, Eurovision is so way better than American Idol.)
When I watched Believe’s official video, I was stunned on how well the lyrics spoke to me and why this song bested 75 European countries.

Have you seen the latest Phil. Ad. Congress TV Spot?

A dark tale about a Spanish-era circus encloses this year’s Phil Advertising Congress’ high quality TV spot. But like everyone else, I was in great awe and curious. So I Googled it and found out that the commercial was actually just a trailer to a series of films dubbed “Perspective.” Each film focuses on the side of the story of one character: The Assistant, The Stagehand, The Magician and the Date. Who killed who?  Each perspective is intriguing and adds more layers to the story as we dig deep down. If only Pinoy movies and TV shows were of this caliber we wouldn't have to settle to being fans of Hollywood. But what the heck. Watch on.
