Filipino developers flock to Foursquare Hack Day Philippines

Foursquare Hack Day Philippines was a day of fun, competition, and some serious location-based mobile app development.

The highlights:
Makati - Dec 1, 2012

On December 1, the elevators leading to SMART' Communications 12th floor cafeteria "Sadoce" at its Makati HQ were jammed with software developers headed for Foursquare Hack Day Phliippines (an event also known by its Twitter hashtag #4SQHackPH).

For that Saturday, the cafeteria had transformed into an enormous "hackerspace", with its tables filled with developers, laptops, power strips, and energy drinks, eager to hunker down for a day of coding with the Foursquare API.

Judging from the numbers alone, the event was a huge success - 119 developers showed up (comprising 26 teams out of the 46 that had registered online) to compete for cash prizes and free accounts to pricey developer cloud services. It was one of the biggest local hackathons assembled at a single venue. But apart from the competition, the devel…

We are knocking at your generous hearts to help Lyzabeth Zuher Genobiagon who is suffering from brain tumor. She is the younger sister of Karren Sabrina Genobiagon, a RAFI-YMA Season 6 alumna.

Please find attached letter from Karren for your reference. They also made a Facebook page for Lyzabeth:!/APennyforAnAngel

Helping Nature and Endangered Animals Has Never Been This Rockin Fun!

Eco Art & Music Fest Fundraiser Opens January 19 at Conspiracy Garden Café

Manila (December, 2012) – An art exhibit and music fest fundraiser for Save Philippine Seas’ Pawikan Watchers program opens on January 19, 2013 at the Conspiracy Garden Café, Quezon City.

EndDanger, which features mixed media artworks from the group Artists for Nature and performances from Flying Ipis and other music bands, calls attention to the growing problem of animal endangerment in the Philippines and encourages the community to get involved in conservation and protection efforts.

Although gifted with a rich and biologically diverse ecosystem, from lush forests to a vibrant marine life, our country’s natural resources have significantly dwindled over time. Animal species, in particular, are under increasing threat from habitat destruction, pollution and commercial exploitation. Many are now in the verge of extinction.

The artists and organizers behind EndDanger seek to raise funds for the monitoring o…
