They welcomed yours truly along with other media practitioners, government officials, volunteer workers and partners to the 7th Regional Nutrition Action Officer’s Congress held at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel last August 5, 2011.
In the morning, Hon. Micheal Rama, Mayor and Chair of Cebu City Nutrition Council gave the Welcome Remarks followed by Dr. Pedro A. Noval, Jr.’s message as the Regional Director of DILG 7 and Vice Chair of Regional Nutrition Committee.
In the second part of the program in the afternoon was the media presentation of Regional Awardees for this year’s Grand Nutrition Awards.
Dr. Parolita Mission, Regional Nutritional Planning Coordinator for Nutrition Council 7 initiated the exhibition where Bohol after the rigorous screening process garnered multiple awards for the concept, success of their programs. They took home the Most Outstanding Province in the Region, Nutrition Honor Maintenance Award, Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN), Region’s Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
The Best Nutrition Projects are the “Free Ozonised Water for Indigent People” of Bais City. Tagbilaran City was also commended for their “Micronutrient Supplementation in the Workplace.”
Also among the best projects included our “Accelerated Social Amelioration Program for Nutrition” of Cebu City, “Nutrisyon, Sugilanon ug Segregasyon” by Mandaue City. The Cebu Province also received recognition for “Ensuring Capacity of Nutrtion Workers thru Policy Issuance.”
The Regional Nutrition Committee evaluated the provinces in Region 7 following criteria which includes performance scores, validation scores and Barangay Nutrition Status exams. Identifying and locating targets, delivery of nutrition services, program impact, availability of reports, additional points for performance made up a huge part of the screening process.
